9/25 Meeting

Yes, there actually was a meeting today; I just didn't publicize it enough. My bad . Anyway, here's what we talked about.

Homecoming: Currently four teachers/deans have agreed to being pied. If you have any suggestions about other teachers being pied, please tell me (Liz). Or if you want to go ahead and ask a teacher that's cool too. ...

Sep 20, 2006 -- Darcie, Brighton, Michigan

I put up signs for Interact Club to advertise our first meeting. We have free donuts at our meetings so I included it on my sign. Today I saw one that now said "Free Donuts!" with "and sex" scribbled in next to it in pencil. I was thrilled. ...

Wednesday, September 20, 2006 -- GSE GOES WILD - South Africa 2006

Jeffery’s Bay.
Much fun during our visits for the day. We had a delightful drive with a local historian/anthropologist to visit the outlying areas of Jeffery Bay. We were driven to Hanky, the resting place of Sarah Bartmann, a local tribes woman that was exploited in England for her highly unique physical features and also the home of a major Rotary project for a home for abused and neglected children. The Jeffey’s Bay club and Rotary Anns have contributed funds and paint to make the home more friendly. Their local Interact clubs came and painted murals on the walls. ...

Sunday, September 17, 2006 -- Cochabamba, Bolivia

the Interact Club was doing and after a few phone calls we found out we were actually visiting the childen´s home ... When we got to the home, we finished inflating the balloons and carried bags with toys, juice and cookies, waiting outside the gate. While we got organized, I saw little faces peering out from under it and from the sides with excitement. We went in an handed out balloons to the kids as well as juice and cookies and just took the time to play with them. ...

September 14th, 2006 -- ELIZABETH, Northridge, CA

Victor and my prom date!! have started up an InterACT, which is a Rotary/community service club for High Schoolers. I’m in charge of our project to read to little kids in the Salvation Army which is, hello, the perfect project for me. We also have jobs lined up to help out at the California Theatre, a.k.a. the most beautiful place in town, and clean up after the band’s home field tournament. I’m excited about helping out, since I want to be a Rotarian when I grow up. Lame, I know, but it’s the best feeling in the world, giving back and growing as a person as you do it. ...

The 2007 Relay For Life of Lake Travis Planning Committee is shaping up. Melinda Faust of Keller Williams Realty joined us this morning. Melinda will be our sponsorship and underwriting person. Melinda has experience with this and should be a great asset.

I have been lucky to add several other new Committee members fairly recently. Betty Stowe of the Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce will be in charge of registration. Karen Jellison of Stewart Title will be in charge of team recruiting outside of the high school. Amber Munson of Hammond Associates will be co-chairing the Survivor committee with Melanie Snow. Melanie has co-chaired Survivors several times and her experience is great to have.

As school has begun, I am back working as the Rotary Club liaison to the Lake Travis High School Interact Club. I expect Interact will probably provide people to round out the Committee for next year's event. They have always had a very big role in planning and holding Relay here. ...

Sunday, September 10, 2006 -- Miss D, FREDERICKSBURG, Virginia

We'll be meeting after school again from about 2:30-3 p.m. in room 118 for the Interact Club. Mrs. Heim, a member of the Rotary Club, is coming to talk to us about our idea to do the Themed Tree Auction as a fundraiser and as our first official piece of business.

We're also considering selling ducks (another one of Rotary's projects).

We also have a project that is through Riverbend and would involve going to elementary schools to help read with and mentor a student there.

We've got lots of great ideas already in the works! Please come to the meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 13, in room 118 from 2:30-3. If you can't make it, please let me know. I'll get your email address for the new list for the 06-07 school year. I'll be compiling that soon.

If you have ideas, write them down and let me know. If you can make it to the meeting, wonderful! Bring your ideas with you.

Also, the big Interact Club sign is now hanging in the commons near the serving lines (on the wall as you exit the commons on the serving-line side). That will keep you updated on the meeting times and locations. ...

Sunday, September 10, 2006 -- Cristina Vespasiano, RIO DE JANEIRO - BOTAFOGO, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

My life sufficiently is agitated, everything because I knew the Interact and after that the Rotaract has 13 years behind when still he was in the College Peter II and knew a youngster called Vinicius Corrêa who was who presented me this Rotária Family and since already I was magic with the proposal to participate of this group.

At this time I age shy, introverted and almost very very verybashful a girl of 17 Years making 18 Years, but with the time and coexisting the Interact, Rotaract and Rotary soon começei to be nimbler, comunicativa, participativa, falante and without speaking that I obtained to very develop my personal and professional side well until the present.

Today I see, that the time passed and the people who I knew in the Rotaract already they do not estam more here and that each one also followed its lives and I, but exactly thus today I can say that I have wonderful friends that I made during my life in the Rotária Family and that I prezo very until today and if will be able forever!

Today although I already to have mine 30 Years am very Happy in having had the chance to know the Interact, the Rotaract and the Rotary therefore had always been part of my life and they will always make of a skill or of another one because for me it is the "Better Vice" that I could have acquired in my Life and I always indicate for all the ages and all that I know!

Good my Friends this is a small piece of My Life waits that they like!

I want to see commentaries, hein!

Monday, Sep 4, 2006 -- Tara's Trans-Pacific Adventures, Japan

Alright, so my family warned me that I “might” be “camping” this weekend (note those two very key words) with RYLA and Interact members bask at the Inbound orientation. So Papa said to be ready to leave the house for 9:30 Saturday morning, and to pack a bag, so I’m thinking, okay, I’m staying overnight in something that is most likely not a tent, so I’ll need the typical overnight gear—PJs, toothstuff, hairbrush, spare clothes, raincoat, you know the drill, with of course lots of pins and flags and Canadian things because I thought I’d see at least Mathieu again, so there would likely be other exchange students. Maybe. Alright, so I dress for camping, t-shirt, baseball cap, and shorts, and am promptly picked up by my club counsellor. I should have been clued in by his tie and jacket, but I assumed he wasn’t staying overnight, or was staying briefly, or something, so it came as a complete shock when we arrived at a conference centre and hobnobbed with Rotarians, Rotaract, and Interact members. ...

The Lake Travis High School Interact Club is kicking off the year with a drive for the homeless. The students will collect blankets and socks for the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (ARCH). Future projects will be raising funds to donate to Heifer International and sponsoring the 2007 Relay For Life of Lake Travis.
